Buhari to depart for Saudi Arabia to participate in Investment Summit in Riyadh

President Muhammadu Buhari will, Monday October 25, 2021, depart for Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, to participate in the investment conference organized by the Future Investment Initiative Institute.

The three-day event, with the theme, “INVESTMENT IN HUMANITY,” which will host global executives and asset managers, will deliberate on progress and prosperity with energy; true final frontiers in investments; science in action; and impact of climate change on communities among others.

Malam Garba Shehu, the President’s spokesman who disclosed this in a statement on Sunday said the President will be joined at the 5th edition of the flagship investment event by business executives from Nigeria, bankers, Captains of industry and energy experts to discuss issues on the future of investments across the globe.

Some participants from the private sector include: Alhaji Mohammed Indimi, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, Tope Shonubi, Wale Tinubu, Alhaji Abdulsamad Rabiu, Hassan Usman, Omoboyode Olusanya, Abubakar Suleiman, Herbert Wigwe and Leo Stan Ekeh.

The President will be accompanied on the trip by the Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Dr. Isa Ibrahim Pantami, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs, Amb Zubairu Dada, Minister of State for Petroleum Resources, Chief Timipre Sylva, National Security Adviser, Maj. Gen Babagana Monguno, Director General of National Intelligence Agency, Amb. Ahmed Rufai Abubakar, Managing Director of Nigerian Sovereign Investment Authority, Uche Orji and Chairman, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission, Hon. Abike Dabiri-Erewa.

The Governing Council of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, has approved the dismissal of two lecturers, Malam Abubakar Baba and Mr Adebusoye Sunday, accused of allegedly harassing their students sexually.

The Rector, Mr Sunusi Gumau, stated this while briefing newsmen at the end of the 98th meeting of the council, on Sunday in Bauchi State.

Gumau said that the decision was reached after a thorough investigation of the matter by a committee set up by the institution.

According to him, Baba was a lecturer in the Department of Nutrition and Dietetics while Mr Sunday was a lecturer of the Department of General Studies.

“This is the final verdict of all that has been making waves in the media concerning the issue of our staff reported on alleged case of rape.

“This issue of Abubakar Baba came up on the Aug. 4, 2021. In the rules of the Polytechnic, if an issue of this magnitude happens, the complainant has to write and immediately she wrote.

“I asked the staff to be queried.

“When we queried him, the suspect replied and the reply was not satisfactory, and we established a committee to investigate the matter thoroughly to a logical conclusion.

“We did that and after the committee submitted its report, the Senior Staff Appointment and Disciplinary Committee met, invited the suspects, cross examined and we made our recommendation to the council.

“Today; the council has finally approved the dismissal of Abubakar Baba from the services of the Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi”, the Rector was quoted as saying.

Sanusi further revealed that Mr Sunday was equally dismissed from the service of the Polytechnic with immediate effect.

The Rector stated that concrete evidence had been established against Sunday for sexually assaulting his student.

He further said that the victims had military background which propelled the exposure of the culprits.

Gumau said the two lecturers were no longer staff of the Polytechnic and assured that their dismissal letter would be handed over to the necessary security agencies for appropriate actions.

“In the case of Baba, the father of the student involved is military personnel while in the case of Sunday, the victim is a sister to a military woman.”
