Court remands duo for being in a gang of thieves

Police have arraigned two suspects before a magistrate court sitting in Ilorin on Monday, 1st of November on offences bordering on belonging to a gang of thieves and illegal possession of firearms.

The duo of Idris Rafiu and Ibrahim Ahmed of Osin Area of Ilorin, we’re arrested by men of the Nigerian police for possessing firearm and being in a robbery gang.

According to the First Information Report obtained by National Pilot, the defendants (Rafiu and Ahmed), were arrested in a building where they were smoking Indian hemp and drinking alcohol.

The charge sheet also has it that, in the course of arrest, the police reportedly recovered from them, fabricated pistol, one stainless knife and two wraps of Indian hemp.

The counsels to the suspects in their addresses pleaded to the court to grant their clients bail.

However, Magistrate O.A Adeniyi, who  presided over the case, said the matter is not an ordinarily bailable one, saying their counsel could come formally for their bails

Magistrate Adeniyi in the ruling ordered that the suspects be remanded in the correctional facility and adjourned the matter till 22nd of this month pending the determination of police investigation and legal advice.
