Kwarans blast FG over hike in prepaid meters to N109,684

Kwarans on Friday have expressed anger and disdain over the Federal Government’s decision to raise the price of both single-phase and three-phase electricity meters beginning from today, November 15.

Recall the Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission penultimate Thursday announced the price hike in a circular dated November 11, 2021.

The circular was addressed to managing directors, all electricity distribution companies and all meter asset providers.

The circular with the reference number NERC/REG/MAP/GEN/751/2, was titled, ‘Review of the unit price of end-use meters under the Meter Asset Provider and National Mass Metering Regulations.’

Prices of the single-phase meter were reviewed upwards from the current cost of N44,896.17 to a revised price of N58,661.69.

The price of a three-phase meter was raised from the current cost of N82,855.19 to a revised rate of N109,684.36.

Reacting to the development, a cross section of the people of Kwara State during a chart with our reporter believes the price increase will add to the hardship they are confronted with.

Luqman Ibrahim, a trader, describes the new increment in the price of metres by the government as wickedness.

“The people at the helms of affairs in this country are heartless. Just imagine the difference if the masses had the opportunity of buying it earlier.

“When failure has come to stay in a Government, citizens are at the receiving end. Sad most Nigerians found themselves in this due to incompetence of leaders,” Ibrahim said.

In the same vein, Abibat Salami, queried why is it that the present administration finds it easy compounding problems of people of this country.

“FG always creates more hardship for Nigerians. What do we enjoy in this country as citizens? Nothing.

“This new price hike in prepaid meters is sad. We need to stage a protest. They are extorting us too much. Estimated billing is too much and capping is very high as well,” she lamented.

Kayode Sarumi, a teacher, likened the Buhari led administration to a wicked government.

“I’m sure that one day, our God Almighty will deliver us from the so-called wicked government.

“Fuel has gone up to 165/litre, Gas is on the increase daily and electricity is following suit. What have we done to Buhari. Is it by force to rule a country. We are just tired of this President,” Sarumi stressed.
