Foreign vs local coach delays appointment of new Super Eagles coach

A replacement for Gernot Rohr as Super Eagles coach will now not be place soon because while the NFF favour another foreign coach, the sports ministry is pushing for a local man to head the country’s football team.
NFF president Amaju Pinnick has never hidden his distrust and lack of confidence in local coaches as was demonstrated during his topsy-turvy time with Stephen Keshi, arguably the most successful indigenous coach till date.
In recent times, Sports Minister Sunday Dare has pushed for a local man to call the shots in the national team and he was responsible for the appointment of former Eagles captain Joseph Yobo as an assistant coach in the team.
Re-instated Salisu Yusuf remains in pole position to at least take temporary charge of the Eagles before a substantive appointment is concluded.
Naming a replacement for Rohr has been further delayed by the growing interest in the top post as more qualified candidates have applied, according to top officials.
Speculations of the new Super Eagles coach will therefore persist even as kick-off to the 2021 AFCON approaches fast.
