The Kwara State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has raked in over N23 million from the sale of expression of interest forms for chairmanship aspirants in the coming local government election slated for November 18 in the state, National Pilot can report.

The amount was realised from the over 82 chairmanship intent forms that have so far been sold in preparation for the contest of the council election.

This figure does not however include other several millions it has realised from the sale of       councillorship forms across the 16 local governments comprising of 193 wards.

The APC has fixed N285,000 for the purchase of forms for local government chairman aspirants and N75,000 for the councillorship.

As at last night, it was gathered that more than 82 chairmanship aspirants who have signified interest to contest the election have paid for the forms at the party secretariat which has been a beehive of activities lately.

Many of the aspirants were on a last minute rush to beat the deadline set by the party on Saturday when National Pilot visited.

Several sources who spoke with this medium on the matter confirmed that most of the local government have concluded on the issue except in few council where some “gay areas are being sorted out”.

Meanwhile the chairmanship ticket in Isin Local Government has reportedly caused disquiet between the serving Commissioner for Commerce and Tourism, Mrs Iyabo Adewuyi and some aspirants who allegedly have the backing of some influential members of the council.

It was gathered that her opponents have been flying things in the media to discredit her over her alleged interest in the council election.

However, Adewuyi’s name was not on the list of those who purchased chairmanship from Isin

But speaking on the matter exclusively with National Pilot in a telephone interview, she said described her opponents as “anti-sarakite” who are only motivated by the chairmanship position.

According to her, “those who have been flying things in the media to discredit me are enemies of the dynasty and they don’t belong to the structure. They have been our enemy all along until now that the council election is around the corner. I have been a very strong member of the Saraki dynasty and have never failed to deliver for the party during elections in my ward in Edidi.

“My concern has always been to ensure that the structure is not defeated and that has really troubled them. They are only here for one thing and that is the chairmanship which they will later use to fight the dynasty. That has been my battle and they now see me as a threat to their plans. I will continue to work for the dynasty wherever I find myself. The chairmanship position is not for Edidi ward but upper Isin and Femi Adeyemi who they have been promoting is an enemy of Saraki and has always fought the structure. In 1999, we were banned from presetting any Saraki candidate”, she added.

In Ilorin West, it was gathered that no fewer than eight chairmanship aspirants have so far collected forms.
