Registration: Hoteliers, travel agents, others urge KWSG to provide infrastructure

 

Operators of hotels, eateries, event centres and travel agencies in Ilorin, Kwara State have called on the state government to provide basic amenities for their business to thrive.

Recall that this medium had published in recent edition that the state government through the Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) had began registration of resort centres with the aim of enhancing revenue derivation in the state.

Speaking separately to Pilot Business, the aforementioned businessmen and women tasked government to provide infrastructure for their businesses to thrive in the state.

The General Manager of ‘D Prince Hotel located in Check Point Area of Ilorin, Mr. Ariyo Garrison said, ” It is not enough for the government to start registering the resort centres within the state but they should provide amenities like good road network, regular power supply and potable water.

” We use generators throughout the night for our patronage to receive quality service. At the end, it will be discovered that a large percentage of income is expended on diesel.

The Manager of Royal Ryders Travels, Mr. Yunus Akinsola stated that to help save their businesses from the present economic challenges and imminent collapse by ensuring that all taxes they are paying should be harmonised into one.

“We believe that our members are partners with the government in creating job opportunities, but in a situation where we are paying multiple taxes, this is not only too much, it is also capable of sending us out of business.

He then called on the state government to ensure that roads are motorable and provision made for them to gain immense benefit from the taxes being paid.

 Also speaking, the owner of Royal Heritage Event Centre along Ita Foma area, Alhaji Abdulrazak Inusa, called on the government to reduce levies apportioned to event centres.

He said, “Event centres pay as much as 10 different types of taxes/levies to the federal, state and local government authorities. We believe this should be looked into urgently.

”We, therefore, appeal that the issue of multiple taxation be looked into as it is having negative impact on our businesses,” he stressed
