Police arraign man,24, over 130k ‘investment’ scam

Police have dragged one Olugbami Benjamin,24 , before magistrate A. Bello of Kwara state magistrate court sitting in Ilorin for allegedly scamming an aged man to the tune of #130,000.
According to the First information report obtained by National Pilot, Benjamin is answering to three count charges of criminal conspiracy, cheating and obtaining money by false pretence, which are in contrary to section 97 and 322 of penal code law and section 1(3) of the advance fee fraud act, 2006.
The charge sheet says that the matter was reported by one Mrs Amodu Kemi, where she claimed that sometimes in February, Benjamin alongside some other people who are still at large, went to her 89 years old father, Simeon Joel who has been under a severe medical condition and has suffered some loss in his memory.
She said the group intent to defraud, deceived and convince him, told her father about their group, Secure Your Future Company and fraudulently collected the sum of N130,000 from him under the pretence of making him a Millionaire in three 3 months time.
The defense counsel, A.S Jimba prayed the court to grant his client bail in most liberal terms ,emphasizing that he is presumed innocent until proven guilty.
The prosecutor, Zacchaeus Folorunsho, told the court that investigation is ongoing hence, urged the court not to grant the defense bail application , saying that the offenses are not ordinarily bailable.
He added that, the defendant will tamper with the investigation hence should be remanded at the Oke kura Federal correctional facility.
However in his ruling, the magistrate yielded to the prayer of the defense counsel, granting the defendant a bail for a sum One hundred thousand Naira and two sureties in like sum, noting that the sureties must be of blood relations to Benjamin.
He also adjourned the matter till 19th of April.
