The newly elected President of Offa Grammar School Old Students Association (OGSOSA) 2000 Set, Barr. Temi Nuruddin Salami (SABO) has appealed to Kwara State Government to improve public education in the state.
Barr. Salami made the disclosure at the weekend during a visit to the school which the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) had disconnected from power supply for months.
He, on behalf of OGSOSA 2000 offset some arrears owed by the school and power was restored.
He said “the quality of teaching in Offa Grammar School has fallen considering the large number of students failing in the Senior Secondary Certificate Examination (SSCE) as result of poor remuneration for teachers and paucity of fund to the school.
“The state government needs to increase the salary and welfare of the teachers to ensure quality delivery or return the school to the host community”.
Barr. Salami noted that the infrastructures in the school is largely maintained and built by alumni of the school, in spite of this the state government couldn’t employ enough teachers, as alumni we’re also forced to employ some of the teachers.
Recalled that the State Government took the school off the Community some decades ago to manage it for effective management and improved quality of education.
But the reverse is the case, the 80years old and the first community grammar in the northern region known for scholarship and excellence is now a shadow of itself.
He tasked the State Government to return the Offa Grammar School to the community if it can’t manage it effectively.
The President applauded the members who spared time out of their busy schedules towards this accomplishment.
