Former Nigerian President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has dismissed report that the meeting he had with South East governors in Enugu on Tuesday centered on the release of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Nnamdi Kanu.

The former President said contrary to the widely circulated report, the release of the IPOB leader was not part of the agenda of the meeting

Obasanjo in a statement released by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi said his meeting with the South east governors was mainly on regional development

“The meeting with them was at my invitation and that of Chief Emeka Anyaoku before their summit begins,” Obasanjo said. “The issue of Nnamdi Kanu was not on the agenda and was not discussed in my presence.”

“The meeting focused on regional development issues, including security and infrastructure, as well as economic and cooperative/collaboration initiatives aimed at complementing the national economic development agenda”.

“Others were economic and cooperative/collaboration, which was meant to complement the national economic development agenda,” Obasanjo explained.

Obasanjo’s clarification dispels speculation about the potential release of Kanu, emphasizing the focus on regional development and cooperation.

The meeting highlights the importance of regional cooperation and development in Nigeria, with Obasanjo and the South East governors working together to address pressing issues in the region.
