Man charged to court for Engine oil theft in Ilorin

A 35-year-old man from the Baboko area of Ilorin, AbdulYekeen Babatunde, has been charged to court for allegedly stealing car engine oil and other items valued at over a million naira.
Babatunde is charged with burglary and theft in violation of sections 348/ 353 and 287 of the penal code.
According to the complaints filed by Oluwayanju Rotimi of Irewolede and Shuaib Aishat of Oja Iya Street, Ilorin, the suspect allegedly broke into their shops at different times and stole various items.
The police first information report (FIR) detailed the stolen items, which included over 110 gallons of engine oil of different brands, 17 brake oil cans, 72 motorcycle tubes, 56 Matex ATF containers, 200 black cello tapes, a solar battery/panel, a gas cylinder, and cash, among other items, all valued at over N1.3 million.
Police testified in court that some of the stolen items were found in the suspect’s possession.
The defense attorney, Barrister Toyin Onaolapo, requested that his client be granted bail.
Magistrate Shade Lawal approved the bail request and postponed the case to August 11, 2024.
