Nigeria is assured of a medal in the women’s freestyle 67kg wrestling event at the ongoing Olympics games in Paris, France, as Blessing Oborodudu triumphed over France’s Koumba Larouque in the quarterfinals, advancing to the semi-finals.

Oborodudu, who first competed in the Rio Olympics in 2016, showcased her skills in the women’s Freestyle 68kg category. She initially trailed 1-2 but managed to turn the match around, ultimately securing a 3-2 lead as the bout approached its final moments.

In a dramatic twist with just 30 seconds remaining, Oborodudu achieved a pinfall, bringing the score to 5-2. Despite the Parisian’s challenge and a video review of the fall, the decision stood. The Nigerian wrestler was awarded an additional point while her opponent had one deducted, resulting in a final score of 6-2, much to the dismay of the home crowd.

Earlier, Oborodudu had defeated Canada’s Linda Morais with an 8-2 scoreline.
