Former Kwara PDP Women Leader, Muslimat, Dies at 68, Saraki, PDP Mourns

The former Women Leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Kwara State, Hajia Muslimat Ibrahim Jimba popularly known as “Iya N Kwara” died on Sunday at age 68 after a brief illness.
Her Janazah was held at the Jimba compound in Ilorin on Sunday, and her body was committed to the earth at the Muslim Cemetery in Irewolede, Ilorin. The burial was attended by political heavyweights across various parties in Kwara State, reflecting the broad respect and influence she commanded beyond party lines.
In a post made on his Facebook page on Sunday, the former Nigeria Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki, mourned Muslimat’s death, acknowledging her unwavering commitment to justice, equality, and women’s rights.
“I am deeply saddened by the passing of Alhaja Muslimat Ibrahim Jimba, fondly called ‘Iyan Kwara.’ She was a sacrificial mother, a committed leader, and a devoted member of our political family who tirelessly championed justice, equality, and women’s rights.
“Her selfless dedication to the development of Kwara State and to the Peoples Democratic Party will never be forgotten.
“My family and I extend our heartfelt condolences to her family, friends, and the entire Kwara PDP. May Almighty Allah (SWT) forgive her shortcomings and grant her eternal rest in Aljannah Firdaus. Ameen,” he wrote.
Also the Kwara PDP in a statement released by its State Publicity Secretary, Olusegun Olusola Adewara, described the loss as devastating and unfortunate, particularly at a critical time when the party is strategizing for the 2027 elections. The statement highlighted her immense contributions to the party’s growth and democratic progress in the state.
The PDP paid glowing tribute to Muslimat ’s commitment to women’s empowerment, education, and political leadership, describing her as a patriot, a compassionate mother, and a sagacious politician who dedicated her life to advancing the role of women in governance.
“Her contributions to the PDP in Kwara State and the state’s democratic progress are immeasurable. She dedicated her life to the advancement of women in politics and society, ensuring that their voices were heard and their rights protected. Despite her remarkable achievements, she remained humble and calm throughout her political journey, earning the respect and admiration of many,” the Kwara PDP stated.
The party further expressed its deep sorrow over her passing but encouraged her family, political associates, and the Jimba community to find solace in the legacy of service and leadership she left behind.
“As a party, we are deeply devastated by this monumental loss, but we take solace in the impactful and gracious life she lived. We extend our heartfelt condolences to her immediate family, her children, grandchildren, and particularly the Jimba community. May Almighty Allah grant us all the fortitude to bear this loss and grant her a befitting place in Jannah,” the party mourns.
Hajia Muslimat Ibrahim Jimba was widely respected for her political acumen, and unwavering advocacy for women and girl-child education. Her tenure as the Kwara PDP woman leader witnessed a great stride as she played key role in securing electoral victory for the Kwara PDP.
Her passing marks a significant loss not only for the PDP but also for women’s political participation and democratic development in Kwara State.
