Unidentified Dead Man Found In Ilorin River

The Kwara State Fire Service on Tuesday recovered the lifeless body of an unidentified man, estimated to be about 45 years old, from the Asa River in Ilorin.

According to a statement signed by, Head of Media and Publicity for the Director of the Fire Service, Hassan Hakeem Adekunle, the incident was reported earlier in the day by officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Environment stating: “they arrived at our operational centre in a vehicle with registration number 17B-D4KW. Upon discovering the body floating on the Asa River, they immediately notified our team.”

Following the alert, a team of firefighters was dispatched to the scene. “Our crew responded immediately to the distress call and successfully recovered the body from the river,” the statement confirmed, adding that the intervention was necessary to prevent potential environmental hazards.

The remains have since been handed over to the Ministry of Environment, which is currently awaiting formal identification and contact from the deceased’s family.

Reacting to the development, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John Olumuyiwa, expressed concern over public safety and called on residents to exercise greater caution in their daily lives.

“This unfortunate incident reminds us all of the importance of being vigilant and prioritizing safety at all times. We urge members of the public to take personal safety seriously and desist from practices that expose lives to danger,” he said.

Prince Falade also issued a strong warning against sending underage children to fetch water from wells. “Parents must stop the habit of sending young children to draw water from domestic wells. It is unsafe, and the consequences can be devastating,” he stress.

The Fire Service therefore reassured the public of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property while encouraging community members to report any suspicious or emergency situations promptly.
