The Kwara Central Advancement Elders Forum has rejected an endorsement of the Kwara North Senatorial district for the 2027 governorship election. The forum, comprising card-carrying members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) from Asa, Ilorin West, Ilorin East, and Ilorin South Local Government Areas, described the endorsement as unauthorized and lacking the mandate to speak on behalf of the party or the people of Kwara Central Senatorial District.

At a press conference held at the NUJ Press Centre in Ilorin on Friday, Arch. Akanbi Lamidi, speaking on behalf of the forum, expressed strong reservations about the endorsement.

“We are surprised and disappointed by the actions of some individuals claiming to represent the interests of Kwara Central APC Elders,” Lamidi said.

He added, “Their endorsement of Kwara North for the 2027 governorship election is not only premature but also lacks the mandate of the people of Kwara Central Senatorial District.”

The forum demanded evidence of a purported 2019 agreement on zoning arrangements, which some individuals have cited as the basis for the endorsement.

“We challenge anyone making such claims to present the document for public scrutiny. Until then, we consider such claims as mere assertions without any basis in fact,” Lamidi stated further.

Highlighting the demographic significance of Kwara Central, Lamidi emphasized, “We account for over 40% of the state’s total voting population. Our voices must be heard, and our interests must be respected in any discussion about the future leadership of Kwara State.”

The forum warned against any attempt to undermine the party’s peace, unity, and future, urging all stakeholders to work together towards achieving victory in 2027.

“We are committed to transparency, fairness, unity, and collective effort in achieving electoral success. Let us work together to build a stronger APC that will continue to serve the people of Kwara State,” he concluded.
