Fire Razes Four Shops in Ilorin

A fire outbreak in the early hours of Tuesday, April 29, 2025, consumed four shops in a block of commercial buildings that house 10 shops located along F-Division, Tanke, Ilorin, Kwara State.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 5:15 a.m., was reported via a distress call to the fire service.
The Head of Media and Publicity for the Kwara State Fire Service, PFO Hassan Hakeem Adekunle while reacting to the incident, stated that; “Our fire crew responded promptly and arrived at the scene to find a block of 10 shops engulfed in flames.
Demonstrating exceptional professionalism and efficiency, the firefighters swiftly brought the situation under control, successfully preventing the fire from spreading to adjacent shops and nearby buildings.”
Although six shops were salvaged, four were completely affected by the inferno. Preliminary investigations suggested that the fire was caused by a power surge.
The fire service spokesman further disclosed that a security guard on duty at the premises recounted hearing a loud noise from one of the shops, followed by smoke and then flames that quickly spread to other parts of the building.
“Preliminary investigations suggest that the fire was caused by a power surge. According to the security guard on duty, he heard a loud noise from one of the shops, followed by smoke and then an eruption of flames, which rapidly spread to other shops in the block,” the statement read.
The Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Prince Falade John, therefore urged ” the general public to always remain vigilant and safety conscious to prevent such occurrences.”
