Veteran Juju musician King Sunny Ade has categorically denied allegations made by his daughter, Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye, that he was kidnapped and being held against his will. The claims, which sparked widespread concern among the lovers of the Juju maestro, were vehemently dismissed by the 78-year-old music icon in a video going viral on the Internet on Tuesday.

According to King Sunny Ade, the concerns raised by his children stemmed from his temporary absence from family gatherings while he took a short holiday.

“I thank God, I thank my people all over the word, my children wanted to see me as I went away for a few days to rest. I thank God, I was not kidnapped and I didn’t kidnap myself,” he said.

The controversy began when Damilola Esther Adeniyi-Adegeye, one of the biological children of the Juju music maestro, took to her Instagram page to express worry over her father’s whereabouts and well-being. In a series of posts, she alleged that King Sunny Ade’s manager and half-brother, Dayo, along with other close associates, had isolated him from his family and were controlling his movements and communications. Damilola also raised concerns about the management of her father’s finances and the impact of these alleged actions on his reputation.
