A victim of suspected cult-related attack in Ilorin, which claimed the life of a 19-year-old teenager, Iyangbe Jeffrey at a football viewing centre in Coca-Cola area, Ilorin on April 9, 2025, has appealed for help to cover his medical expenses.
Emmanuel Mmuo, a 41-year-old man popularly known as Milkose sustained a gunshot wound during the incident.
According to Mmuo, who spoke to National Pilot on Wednesday, the tragic incident happened when a group of armed men invaded a sports viewing centre where he was watching a football match.
“We had just arrived at the sports viewing centre when about five or more guys invaded and started shooting sporadically. Everyone scampered for safety, and I was hit by three bullets,” he recounted.
Despite being severely injured, Mmuo narrated that he managed to escape and was rushed to a nearby hospital by a friend on a motorcycle.
“I managed to escape though a bit unconscious. I fell in front of my house and my friend rushed in with his motorcycle and took me to a nearby hospital. Seven other victims later died in the hospital,” he said.
He further disclosed that he has received some support from his club members, the Anambra State Association of Town Union, (ASATU) , and other well-wishers, who have donated over ₦890,000 towards his medical bills. However, he still requires additional assistance to cover his treatment costs.
The incident, also, has had a devastating impact on Mmuo’s life, particularly his livelihood.
He said: “I’ve been finding it difficult to feed my family since the incident. My barbeque business has suffered because I can no longer use my hand, and my wife is heavily pregnant. I’m counting on the kindness of strangers to get back on my feet”
Another victim, simply identified as Ola who escaped unscathed, described the incident as “a close call.”
“I was lucky to get out alive. When the shooting started, I ran for my life. I’m still shaken by what happened, and I’m grateful to be alive,” Ola said, reflecting on the trauma inflicted by the attack.
However, all efforts to get the reaction of the Kwara State police command spokesperson, Toun Ejire-Adeyemi proved abortive as calls made to her mobile number on Wednesday evening were not answered .
Also a text which reads: “Good evening ma, from National Pilot. I’m texting to confirm if there is any update concerning the suspected cult killing of April 9, 2025 at Coca-Cola sports viewing centre. Has there been any arrest so far?” was sent to her line.
