Tragedy struck in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State as Nelson Adepoyigi, the Ward 5 Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been murdered by his abductors days after being kidnapped.
Adepoyigi was abducted last Monday while attempting to park his car at his residence in Ifon. Initially, the kidnappers demanded a ransom of ₦100 million, but after prolonged negotiations and community appeals, the sum was reduced to ₦5 million.
Two individuals from Ifon courageously stepped forward to deliver the agreed amount. However, upon reaching the kidnappers’ location, they were also taken hostage. The abductors then issued fresh demands, asking for an additional ₦30 million before any of the captives would be released.
Eventually, the two community members were freed. According to local sources, the kidnappers allegedly declared that Adepoyigi’s death had been predetermined, suggesting he was a specific target in a larger conspiracy.
Confirming the incident, Ose Local Government Chairman, Kolapo Ojo, expressed deep sorrow over the deteriorating security situation in the region, describing it as increasingly dire and alarming.
“This pattern of brazen abductions, even at the very gates of people’s homes, confirms that insecurity has taken a dangerous and intolerable dimension.
“We urge our people to remain vigilant, promptly report suspicious activities to the nearest security post, and stand united as we work together to overcome this threat,” he said.
