Security operatives under the Nasarawa State Police Command have successfully intercepted a significant shipment of sophisticated firearms and ammunition en route from Benue State to Kwara.
Acting on credible intelligence, officers apprehended two individuals suspected of arms trafficking during a swift operation conducted in the early hours of Wednesday.
This development was confirmed in a press release issued the same day by the Command’s spokesperson, Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Ramhan Nansel.
The statement read, “On June 4, 2025, at about 03:09 hours, acting on credible, actionable intelligence, the Command intercepted two suspected gun runners traveling through Lafia in possession of a large cache of high-grade firearms and ammunition en route to Ilorin, Kwara State.”
According to Nansel, operatives from the anti-kidnapping squad swiftly initiated a targeted operation that resulted in the arrest of two individuals. The suspects were identified as 75-year-old Dahiru Abdullahi from Funtua, Katsina State, and 40-year-old Lawal Sani, a commercial driver hailing from Makwalla, also in Katsina.
During the arrest, security personnel recovered a cache of dangerous weapons and equipment, including a General Purpose Machine Gun (GPMG), three AK-47 rifles, one TAB 06 rifle, a total of 1,086 rounds of 7.62x39mm ammunition, 20 rounds of 7.62 NATO ammunition, four empty magazines, and a Toyota Hiace van allegedly used for transporting the arms.
Nansel explained that the suspect “confessed to being paid N500,000 to transport the weapons from Benue to Kwara State – a transaction that could have armed multiple criminal networks.”
He added that a full-scale investigation has commenced to uncover the actors behind the arms transaction, while those arrested have been taken into custody.
