A 28-yr-old man, Damilola Fadipe of Mandate III, New Yidi road in Ilorin, Kwara State was last Tuesday mauled to death by people suspected to be cultists at a viewing centre in Ilorin.

Pilot Crime gathered that the suspected cultists stormed the viewing centre along Stadium road at about 9:30pm to carry out the dastardly act.

The victim, who was watching the match between Manchester United and Real Madrid with other football fans at the time, was reportedly dragged and shot at close range severally by his assailants before fleeing the scene.

An eyewitness who craved anonymity told this medium that the gunmen who were four in number were earlier sighted patrolling the area before launching the attack on their target.

“We suspected their movement and body language.  I even told the person beside me that I’m not comfortable with the presence of the guys in black and blue top. They initially came into the viewing centre and went out only to come back to carry out their operation,” the source divulged.

Another eyewitness, who simply identified himself as Lekan, said, “The (suspected) cultists invaded the viewing centre and made straight for their victim, whom they ordered to stand up, which led to a very hot exchange of words. We were shocked to our marrows when the guys brought out their guns.

“They beat their victim up and dragged him out. The next thing we heard were gunshots and everybody in the area ran for their dear lives,” he added.

Pilot Crime learnt that Fadipe, who is suspected to be a cultist, had been terrorising rival cult members within the metropolis before he met his death in the incident.

The police patrol team was said to have arrived the scene immediately but could not make any arrest as the perpetrators had escaped while they evacuated remains of the deceased.

Effort to contact the State Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the development prove abortive as the calls put to his phone was not connected to as at the time filling up the report.
