3 granted bail over theft of wires

A magistrate court sitting in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital on Tuesday granted bail to three suspects Issa Azeez, Adebayo Azeez and Jethro Kayode over alleged theft of electrical cables.

The police First Information Report (FIR) revealed that one iron cutter and some quantities of wires in their possession.

According to police report, the case was transferred from the Divisional Police Headquarters, Ganmo Division, Ilorin to Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (CIID), Ilorin for discreet investigation. The FIR revealed that the suspects were caught on 5th August, 2018 at about 01:30hrs by one Raji Babatunde, the chairman of Vigilante at Sapati area Ilorin who reported at Ganmo police station, Ilorin that while he was on patrol together with two of his men within the Sapati-Ile axis of Ilorin, caught Issa Azeez, Adebayo Azeez and Jethro Kayode carrying some quantities of wires on their head from Nigeria Railway Corporation track along Sapati area Ilorin.

Magistrate Esther Kikelomo Abu charged them for criminal conspiracy and theft contrary to sections 97 and 287 of Penal Code Law.

In the course of investigation Issa Azeez, Adebayo Azeez and Jethro Kayode confessed to crime investigation conducted at CIID, Ilorin.

The FIR revealed that Issa Azeez, Adebayo Azeez and Jethro Kayode are syndicate of criminals who specialised in vandalising government properties within Ilorin and its environs and stole them for personal gain.

In his submission, the prosecutor,  Ademide Abidoran prayed the court to remand the accused persons pending the determination of their matter on court jurisdiction.

The accused persons counsel, Adedapomolu Lawal however prayed the court to discountenance the submissions of the prosecutor on the basis that the accused are still presumed innocent until otherwise proven by the court.

He prayed the court to grant the accused bail on liberal terms, Magistrate Esther Kikelomo Abu in his ruling granted the accused persons bail.

Meanwhile, the case has been adjourned to 4th of September, 2018.
