No fewer than 57, 000 pupils from public and private primary schools in Kwara State on Saturday wrote the 2018 common entrance examination across 450 centres.

Most of the pupils and their parents arrived the centres as early as 7am but to their surprise the examination did not start in most centres till 9:30am.

Parents and guardians were instructed by invigilators and supervisors to wait outside the gates of those centres.

Speaking on the exercise, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Maryam Garuba, described it as a peaceful conduct.

She however blamed the delay in some centres on the late registration of some candidates. According to her, about 4,000 candidates registered in 48 hours in addition to the 53,000 that were initially provided for.

“As at Wednesday, we had only 53,000 registered candidates but because we allow for late registration in common entrance exam, we discovered that additional 4,000 pupils had registered in about 48 hours. This number exceeded the 2,000 extra question paper and writing materials we budgeted for hence the delay,” she said.
