Bricklayer kidnapped, escapes in Ilorin

But for providence, a bricklayer, Abdulqodir Olasunkanmi of Ajegunle, Asa-Dam road, Ilorin, Kwara State would have been counted among victims of ritual killings.

Pilot Crime learnt that the bricklayer, who left home last Wednesday for the day’s business in the morning, fell prey to ritualists, but was fortunate as he later escaped from his abductors.

It was gathered that Abdulqodir was kidnapped enroute Baboko area of the state capital when he boarded a commercial tricycle popularly known as Keke NAPEP, at Asa-Dam area.

Narrating his experience to this medium,  he said: “I was to meet up with my colleagues at Baboko and subsequently moved to a construction site for the day’s job.

“I boarded a commercial tricycle.  There were three of us in the Keke NAPEP; I sat on the back seat.  After we got to Geri Alimi, I lost consciousness.

“I discovered that we were in the bush by the time I regained consciousness. The tricyclist dropped us off and someone came to march us into the bush at gunpoint.

“A sum of N11,000, my phone and  charger were collected from me. I was later given a mobile phone to call members of my family to bid them farewell. That was when I realised that I had been kidnapped by ritualists.”

The victim added that when it dawned on him that he was in kidnappers’s den, he took to his heels and escaped through a bush path.

“I took to my heels as fast as I could. The ritualists pursued me but I managed to escape. I ran until I sighted houses. I later discovered the place to be College of Arabic and Islamic Legal Studies (CAILS). When I got to  Yebumot roundabout I took bike home,” the victim recounted.

According to him, his family members had reported that he was missing at the A Divisional Police station, before he returned home.

When contacted over the case, the Police Public Relations Officer of the state command, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi denied knowledge of the case.
