COED, Ilorin cooperative society elects new chairman

The crisis rocking the Kwara State College of Education, Ilorin,  Cooperative and Thrift Society may have been laid to rest following the emergence of Mrs. Oluwatoyin Sanusi as the new chairperson to oversee the affairs of the organisation for the next 12 months.

Mrs Sanusi polled a total of 378 to defeat her closest rival, Mallam Abdulkadri Agboola recorded 62 votes, last Thursday.

Mrs Sanusi is from the Art and Science department while Agboola belongs to Business Education department of the institution.

The election which took place at the Hall two of the college started  with the accreditation of about 440 registered voters at exactly 9:00am under the supervision of the Chairman Electoral Committee, Dr. Al-Asan Yahaya Seriki.

Present to monitor the exercise were officials of the Kwara State Ministry of Commerce and Cooperatives.

Speaking with our reporter after the election, the new Chairperson appreciated all the stakeholders of the Cooperative and Thrift Society of the college on their desire for change in leadership.

She also acknowledged the state ministry of Commerce and Cooperatives, saying “they are our parent and they actually stood as a good parent. They were the intermediary that assisted in bringing about credible election.”

According to Sanusi, her priority is to make things easy for members of the society.

“Any time our members want to collect their money, they should take it at once as against the hitherto system of splitting which could hamper the purpose for the loan.

“Also, I want to leave behind a legacy that every member will be entitled to their dividends at the end of each fiscal year.

“I will ensure their money is ploughed back into investment generating assets like building a hall, renovating the school hostels which would bring about bumper harvest, income and profit to the cooperative society,” she said.

Meanwhile, the new cooperative boss has disclosed that she is yet to be officially receive the documents of the cooperative society from the former chairman, Alhaji Ahmed Ayinla.

“We were at the cooperative house last Thursday with the old executives where a verbal handing over was done. But, I told the outgoing chairman that I will not accept a verbal handing over from him, which he promised to do this week.

“A proper and official handing over should be in the form of paper documentation not oral presentation. So far, I am yet to be officially handed the documents,” Sanusi stressed.

Reacting to the emergence of the new chairperson, a member of the cooperative society, Adekanye Adewale of the Registry department lauded the electorate for speaking with their votes.

13 new officers were elected into various offices.
