An Ilorin Magistrates’ Court, yesterday, remanded a farmer, Suleiman Fatai, in prison custody for allegedly beating and stabbing some members of Osi community in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State. Magistrate Mohammed Ndakene, who gave the ruling, said the accused should be kept behind the bars at Oke-Kura Prison, Ilorin, pending conclusion of police investigations.
The accused was arraigned on a five-count charge of criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, assault, causing grievous hurt and intimidation.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Adewumi Johnson, told the court that the accused and three others, now at large, attacked some residents of Osi on February 13.
He said the accused and others attacked the villagers, beat them up and stabbed one of them with a knife at Osi Market Square.
Investigation is ongoing to arrest other fleeing suspects that have become a threat to the Osi community, he said.
He, however, objected to the bail of the accused and urged the court to remand him in prison pending the outcome of investigations.
The offences contravened Sections 97, 114, 265, 248 and 397 of the Penal Code.
The case has been adjourned to March 15.
