IBEDC staff allegedly electrocuted in Ilorin

A staff of Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) was allegedly electrocuted while undertaking repair of faulty electricity equipment along Baba Ode area of Ilorin metropolis on Wednesday.
Recalled that the heavy rainstorm on Tuesday had caused a lot of damages to electric poles across the state.
A competent source who spoke to this medium said that the deceased simply Identified as Friday, a technician staff of the company was electrocuted while undertaking a major repairs on the electric equipment.
The source said “Friday who had been working in some areas where there was power blackout relocated to fix the  supply in Baba-Ode area without knowing that there was power supply in the area. When he climbed the ladder and touched the electric wire he was electrocuted, fell down and died at the spot.
According to our source, the incident attracted a lot of sympathisers to inform the office to the scene.
Speaking in a telephone chat with Pilot Business, the Head of Public Communications, IBEDC Ilorin Regional Office, Mr. Kola Asaju confirmed the incident but denied that the victim was electrocuted.
He said ” one of our field staff fell down from the ladder while undertaking repairs on electric poles and he has been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
According to him, there was no power supply for about two days because of the rainstorm that caused damage to electrical equipment in the field; therefore, it’s not possible to say the victim was electrocuted when there wasn’t power supply in the metropolis.
Asaju stressed that investigation is still ongoing to ascertain what made the victim to slip from the ladder and the company will inform the public appropriately.
He said ” the safety and communication departments have commenced investigation into the incident and we are going to make our position known after the assessment.
