IVTEC: KWSG approves 70% scholarship for indigenes

In order to ensure adequate manpower for industries in the state and beyond, the Kwara State Government has approved 70 per cent scholarship for native students at the International Vocational, Training and Entrepreneurship College (IVTEC), Ajase-Ipo Local Government Area of the state.

The Kwara State Governor, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed stated this on Thursday at the public presentation of a book titled; ‘Recipes for Peace and Good Governance’ authored by the Special Assistant to the Governor on Religion Matter (Christian Affairs), Cos Fawenu at the Banquet Hall, Ilorin.

Ahmed, who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Alhaji Isiaka Sola Gold said, the scholarship covers tuition fee and training tools.

“Also, full scholarship for a three–month special training programme was awarded to 195 indigent students at IVTEC, under the Youth Employment and Social Support Operation (YESSO).

“Let me at this point state that this administration is committed to the promotion and sustenance of peace in Kwara State and will continue to ensure communal harmony and peaceful co-existence in the state.”

Ahmed further added that his administration for the past seven years has put in place policies and programmes to ensure youths in Kwara State thrive.

“For instance, this administration believes that for adequate development and sustainability of the country, government at all levels have to include the youth in governance.”

“Consequently, to encourage youth participation in governance and decision making process, I approved the appointment of youth empowerment coordinators and liaison officers for the 16 local governments in the state to deepen inclusiveness in governance and boost youth empowerment in Kwara.”

He said, “since the empowerment of people and societies are a means of engendering development and ensuring peace, we have provided an enabling environment for our youths to have equal access to qualitative education and growth.

“Furthermore, in view of the crucial role security plays in the stability, growth and development of our society, we have supported security agencies’ in their efforts to reduce crime and criminalities in every part of the state.”

The Governor however applauded the author for timely publication of the book, adding that, “Your contribution to the promotion of peace in the state and Nigeria has been outstanding. This can clearly be seen in the discharge of your duties as the Special Assistant to the Governor on Religious Matters and your tenure as the Secretary to the Christian Association of Nigeria in Kwara State.”
