As the race for the gubernatorial election in Kwara State gathers momentum, politicians interested in the top seat have commenced subtle campaigns on their ambition.
Most of the guber aspirants, who were in town during the last Eid-el-Kabir holiday seized the opportunity to make their ambition known to their associates and political groups.
The number of governorship aspirants in the state that will make their ambition public is however expected to swell in the coming weeks when primaries would be top on the agenda of political parties.
It was gathered that the Senate President and leader of the Peoples Democratic Party in the state, Dr Bukola Saraki has reportedly told those in his camp interested in the race to go and sell themselves to the electorate.
One of the politicians in the party to have heeded the directive of Saraki is former spokesman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi who has since disclosed his interest in the governorship seat of Kwara.
Abdullahi made his intention known when family and friends visited him to celebrate Sallah at his GRA residence in llorin, last Thursday.
The former minister said he is seeking to be governor to make a difference in the state. He added that it is unfortunate that the young people of Kwara were divided along the line of those who hate Saraki and those who like him.
“As of today, it is unfortunate that the young people of Kwara are being divided along the line of those who love Saraki and those who hate him. It is wrong, and unconscionable that the youth should be exploited this way,” Abdullahi said.
He said if elected governor, he would work to unite everyone for the good of the state.
”If Insha Allah, I am elected, I will be the governor that unites all for the good of our state,” Abdullahi said.
“If anything goes wrong, I will take responsibility and fix it, and if things go right, I will share the glory with all of you here who place your trust in me.”
Also, a three-time member of the House of Representatives for Edu/Moro/Patigi Federal Constituency, Hon Ahman Patigi has also declared his intention to contest for the governorship seat.
Patigi is the first aspirant loyal to the Saraki dynasty from the Kwara North to throw his hat into the ring even as he debunked media reports that he has dumped the Senate President for the APC.
He urged the “the good people of Kwara Central and South to see him as a politician that comes from a disciplined family, well-groomed and incorruptible with credibility and trustworthiness  to take the mantle of leadership of the state.
Also, a National Executive Council (NEC) member of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and General Secretary of Textile Workers Union, Comrade Issa Aremu recently declared his intention to run for the seat.
Aremu who had earlier made the declaration during the Nelson Mandela Day in Ilorin  said he will contest the ticket under the Labour Party (LP) promising a radical change in the governance of the state.
He reportedly used the last Eid holiday to meet with his supporters to further strategise over his governorship ambition.
