Kwara Govt denies doling out cars to ‘Good boys’

The Kwara State Government has described as false and baseless an online publication claiming that it gifted cars to a youth group popularly known as ‘Good boys’ in the state.

Following the recent arrest of some suspected cultists in the state, an online medium reported that the state government distributed exotic cars to selected leaders of the ‘Good boys.

The suspects are said to be undergoing interrogation by the police at the Force Headquarters in Abuja.

But in a statement issued at the weekend, via its Facebook page, (Facebook.com/Kwara Govt), the Kwara State Government described the story as a fallacy and urged the public to disregard it.

“We have become aware of an online story published today which claimed that the state government distributed cars to a youth group referred to as ‘good boys’ in the state. For the avoidance of doubt, we maintain that nothing could be further from the truth,” the state government said.

It stated that contrary to the allegations, several youth groups including those regarded as good boys benefited like other Kwarans from its empowerment scheme under its Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) program.

“On the contrary, several youth groups, including the one referenced in the false story, benefited like other Kwarans from the state government’s empowerment scheme under its Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) program,” it clarified.

The government maintained that these credit funds were disbursed through micro-finance banks to beneficiaries in the state upon approval of their loan application.

“At no point were vehicles issued directly to any youth group, individual or association under the scheme by the government.

“The public is hereby urged to discountenance the false story as it bears no resemblance to the reality of the government empowerment scheme, conceived to move more youths and women into entrepreneurship”.
