A chieftain of the Kwara State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ekiti local government, Harry Ilori has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen, National Pilot can report.
The incident occurred Friday night when Ilori was reportedly returning from Araromi Opin after the campaign of one of the party’s candidates.
Ilori is the Director-General of the PDP in Ekiti and former House of Representatives aspirant of the party.
The chairman of the PDP in the local government, Alhaji Raji AbdulGaniyu confirmed the incident to our reporter on the telephone last night adding that the party was still deliberating over the issue.
He said they were yet to establish contact with the victim since the incident happened around 8pm on Friday.
But a top source in the local government who confided in our reporter, said the abductors have gotten in touch with family requesting for N5 million ransom before Ilori would be released.
The source added that his family has established contact with Ilori and he has directed them to cooperate with his abductors adding that he was in good custody.
This medium however could not confirm whether the kidnap was politically motivated or not, last night.
“He was kidnapped Friday night and the issue has been reported to the Osi Divisional Police Command. The abductors who are suspected Fulani gunmen have contacted the family demanding for a ransom of N5million before he could be released.
“He was said to be travelling home, when the Nissan Xtra Jeep he was driving developed fault between Araromi and Obo-Ile. A bolt reportedly pulled off from his steering rack and the steering was not controlling the tyre anymore. It was when he came down to check the problem that his adductors held him and whisked him away. The Police in Osi had to look for a mechanic to fix the car before it was driven to the police station.
“The incident occurred around 8pm in the night and his phone is not even going now”, the source added.
When contacted, the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Okasanmi told our reporter last night that he was yet to be briefed about the incident.
