Kwara resort rake in N4.6m in 6months

Resort centres in Ilorin, Kwara State capital have generated a total sum of N4,670,726.36  between January to June, 2018
The centres include hotels, eateries, event centres and travel agencies.
The state Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr. Amina Ahmed made the disclosure during an interview with this medium in Ilorin on Tuesday.
She said, “We have started the registration of Kwara artisans, hoteliers, event centres, eateries and travel agencies in the state. Before, people did not know that some of the artisans are under this ministry as contained in the Law passed by the state House of Assembly.
“We started calling them to register properly so that when there is any empowerment programme, the state government can easily recognise them and their impact felt by government.
“There is a new policy by the Ministry in which resort centres or individuals that registered will be given receipt and certificate. Also, we need to know how many hotels, eateries, travel agencies and event centres we have in the state.
“These resorts were not captured before but now we believe with this development, the state will have more revenue,” she added.
On tax collection, she explained that money goes to the state government coffers through the Kwara Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS), which is in charge of collection.
The commissioner noted that there is improvement in revenue generation over previous years, which she alluded to proper remittance.
Giving breakdown of the revenue, she said, “The first quarter of this year N659,533.00 was paid while for the  second quarter N4,001,193.36 was remitted, giving a  total of N4,670,726.36 for half of the year.
According to her, the ministry has enjoyed cooperation of hoteliers, eateries and the travel agencies operators.
She added that the ministry would formulate policies to boost business activities of resort centres and enhance revenue derivation.
