Motor dealer nabbed for N2m fraud in Ilorin

Men of Kwara State Police Command have arrested a 33-year-old motor dealer, Ayobami Toki for allegedly duping his client, Olusola Rotimi of N2million, penultimate Friday.

The suspect, Toki who resides on Nupe road in Ilorin, was said to have posed as car dealer to defraud people.

According to a police source, the case was reported to police headquarters by the victim that the suspect approached him sometime in 2017, claimed to be a car dealer and offered to help him to purchase a second-hand Toyota Avalon 2006 model car.

“He said they both agreed for a price of N2million. The victim transferred the sum of N1,960,000 to Toki’s bank account. The suspect then promised to deliver the car two weeks after but breached the contract.

“The case was investigated at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligent Department of the state police headquarters.

During investigation, the suspect reportedly confessed to have converted his customer’s money to personal use.

“He said that Rotimi had reported the case to the police early this year where he was made to sign an undertaking to make the car available to the victim before the end of February this year.

“But the suspect absconded to Abuja before he was finally arrested by the police. Investigation on the matter is ongoing while expecting him to provide either the car or return the money,” the source added.

Efforts to get the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Ajayi Okasanmi on the matter proved abortive as calls and text message sent to him through his mobile phone were not responded to as at the time of filing this report.
