Motorcycle theft: 3 escapes lynching

 

Three suspected robbers allegedly escaped being lynched by residents of Oke-Oyi area of Ilorin, Kwara State, last Monday.

The suspects namely Kunle Adio, Lamidi Rasaki and Lekan Alabi, all from Ibadan, Oyo State were said to have been caught while trying to steal two motorcycles from where they were parked by their owners.

It was gathered that a resident of the area who saw them after they had successfully unlock the motorcycles raised the alarm that attracted people to the scene.

According to an eyewitness, Azeez Ajao who told this medium that the owners of the motorcycles were attending a meeting when the incident happened.

“The owners said they bought the motorcycles and were yet to complete the installment payment at the time.

“We were at the meeting when we heard a voice calling attention to the fact that there was attempt to steal the motorcycles. We rushed out and apprehended the culprits.

“We descended on them but they were lucky that some elders around intervened and pleaded that they should be taken to police station.

“They confessed that they are from Ibadan and specialise in robbing motorcyclists of their motorcycles.

He, however, decried the high incidence of motorcycle theft in Ilorin, calling on the police to help arrest the situation.
