As a young counsel, when I was called to Bar in 2010, I was given a file by my principal to defend a criminal case in a Magistrate Court. I was actually asked to move a motion for bail of the accused… Being a first timer, I was perplexed, jittery that I could not compose myself.

However, to move the bail became a puzzle hard to solve, and eventually, I managed to do it but not satisfactorily. When I finished, I was ashamed of myself because the judge comments was hard on me. I can still remember that he asked me if am a lawyer, when I replied him yes, he counselled and admonished me to improve on my composure saying I lacked courage. I felt bad and discouraged over his comment but at the same time happy; knowing well that such cannot happen to me again. That experience also taught me to always prepare for any matter I want to handle even before coming to court.
