N3.8m Fight: OAU suspends 2 SUG leaders

The Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Ile-Ife has indefinitely suspended two students union leaders over a clash.

The students are Vice-President, Jacob Tosin Grace and Director of Socials, Adedayo Afolabi Emmanuel.

A statement released at the weekend by the Registrar of the institution, David Oladotun Awoyemi, conveyed the notice of their suspension.

It read in part: “Following a report of physical manhandling received by the vice-chancellor involving two members of the students union central executive council on September 5, the Vice Chancellor, Prof Eyitope Ogunbodede is satisfied that the code of conduct for the university community has been breached.

“He has therefore decided to suspend the students alleged to be involved in the incidence until a full investigation is conducted to determine their level of culpability.”

It was learnt that the clash occurred on Tuesday while the union was deliberating on how to expend the sum of N3.8m released to the union by the school management for useful projects within the institution.

According to a member of the union, Grace was displeased about how her colleagues wanted to disburse the funds and engaged in a physical altercation with Emmanuel.

The argument was said to have led to a fight between the duo and Grace was said to have been injured and in retaliation, Grace was said to have broken bottles and stabbed Emmanuel in the arm after he reportedly gave her a head butt.
