National Agency for Food, Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) has warned members of the public against drinking water produced by unlicensed  table and sachet water producers.

The agency warned that there is health risk in consuming water that has not been certified as good by NAFDAC.

The Coordinator of NAFDAC in Kwara State, Mrs. Roseline Ajayi made this during an interactive with Pilot Health on Friday, she said “we are appealing to members of the public to desist from patronising food items and drugs that doesn’t bear our registration number.

“If the producers of these products experience low patronage they will have no choice than closing down their businesses,” she added.

Ajayi stressed that the agency will not relent  in taking proactive measures in punishing violators of its guidelines appropriately.

She said, ” We will sanction any individual or organisation found wanting in compliance with extant regulations on water packaging.

“It is the simple laws that we are going to enforce; these include laws on hygiene, cleanliness, proper storage of water, proper mode of transportation and employment of correct personnel.

“We, however, need to enforce the laws on hygiene so as to guarantee that the sachet water being produced is fit for human consumption,”

She called for assistance of the state government and other sister regulatory agencies in eliminating unsafe water in the state.
