Physically challenged urged on nat’l growth

People living with disabilities in the country have been advised to contribute actively to the economic growth of the country.

The call was made on Tuesday by the Chairman of Federal Civil Service Staff with Disabilities Cooperatives, Alhaji AbdulRauf Iliasu during a weekly empowerment training for disables at Old Parade Ground Abuja.

Iliasu urged the physically challenged at the venue to think less of their health challenges but the great potentials deposited by God in them.

Addressing hundreds of people with disabilities from different parts of the country, Iliasu charged them to come up with business ideas that can make life more meaningful to them even as he assured them of constant support.

Meanwhile, some of the physically challenged who signified their readiness to embark on petty trading complained of lack of initial capital as impediment to their willingness to contribute meaningfully to the country’s economic growth.

Speaking, Hajia Jumai Audu said with as little as N17, 500, she could return to her food vendor business after closing shop for some time.

Responding, the Chairman, Alhaji Iliasu said 57 short listed applicants will be given the sum of N50,000 each as loan to start up their businesses. He however urged the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously as more money will be disbursed to them in three months if there is positive improvement in their businesses.

He then charged them to get their voters card, adding that it is the power of every citizen to choose a leader that will better their lots.

Alhaji Iliasu used the opportunity to appreciate the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Disability Matters, Dr. Samuel Ankalithe, for his usual support.

Among the recipients is Madam Esther Uchenna who lamented how she has continued to struggle to fend for her three disabled children.
