Saraki promises assistance for Ilorin fire victims

…as Okedare doles out cash in Jebba

The Senate President, Dr Bukola Saraki has condoled with the victims of last week’s fire disaster in Kankatu area, Ilorin East Local Government.
The fire incident destroyed over 40 shops in Olaoti’s compound with property which included motorcycles burnt beyond recognition.
Speaking during a visit to the affected building, last week, Saraki, who was represented by the Director-General of the Abubakar Bukola Saraki (ABS) constituency office, Alhaji Musa Abdullahi, said he came on the mandate of the APC leader to assess the damage with a view to providing assistance to the victims.
In his response, Alhaji Faruq Al-Imam Olaoti who spoke on behalf of the affected family, thanked Saraki for his concern and prompt response to the plight of the people especially during their time of need.
With him at the visit were the Chairman of the Local Government Service Commission, Hajia Sarat Adebayo and the ABS Director of Project, Yinka Otukoko.
In a related development, the Deputy Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Hon. Mathew Okedare at the weekend doled out cash award running into millions of naira to victims of the recent fire disaster in Jebba, Moro Local Government Area of the state.
The beneficiaries numbering about 70 who suffered various losses were given cash ranging from N25, 000 to N70, 000 as palliative measure to cushion the effect of their losses.
Recall that several residents of Jebba lost their property to the fire disaster that razed several shops, including cars and motorcycles when a fuel laden tanker lost control and rammed into a trailer causing explosion.
Presenting the cash donation, Okedare who represents Lanwa/Ejidongari constituency said the gesture was borne out of his desire to assist the victims in order to ameliorate their suffering as a result of the losses suffered during the inferno.
The Deputy Speaker stressed that it was very pertinent he render assistance to the victims due to the fact that it was their main source of income and they are in turn contributing to economic development of the community and the state at large.
He, however, called on both the Federal and State Government to expedite action by coming to the aid of the victims to enable them start their businesses all over again.
He also appealed to philanthropists and spirited individuals to support the victims.
Earlier, the Moro LG All Progressives Congress (APC) Chairman, Alhaji Sanusi Oladimeji appreciated Okedare for his support, noting that it would go a long way to reduce their hardship.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Paul Mbonu appreciated the donor for the gesture and prayed that God will continue to guide and assist him.
