Governments at all levels have been enjoined to adopt strategies that will allow for effective management of grassroots sports in the country.

The General Overseer, Peculiar Gospel Outreach Ministry (PGOM), Pastor Joseph Babatunde made the statement while briefing newsmen on the heels of the 9th Convention/Crusade Programme held at the regional headquarters of the church.

He described local football as an avenue where hidden talents were discovered.

According to him, many of the Youth who play at local level have the skills of making the country proud at the international level if properly managed.

He emphasised that the best way of engaging the youths is to encourage them by supporting their skills.

He also called on the authorities to continue to intensify effort in supporting sporting activities in the country.

Babatunde cautioned athletes to be at their best and build their skills with the fear of God while competing during a match.

“A good number of youths are talented in various sporting areas, and I see it as a good source of employment. With effective management, more youths will get involved and thereby getting job for themselves which will bring about reduction in the number of unemployed youths in the country

“Also you have to live with the fear of God and stay away from every form of sin, like getting involve with drugs, fighting etc.

“Another thing is Unity. As you can see, the match ended well, the youths were excited, and that’s the spirit of sportmanship. It creates unity.” He added.
