KWIRS generates N17.4bn in 10 months

The Kwara State Internal Revenue Service (KWIRS) has generated a total sum of N17.4bn from January to October this year.
The Executive Chairman of the Service, Dr. Muritala Awodun disclosed this while speaking with newsmen in Ilorin.
According to him, the agency will generate over N21bn this year, pointing out that the revenue generation had improved tremendously.
Awodun explained that the state is rated 7th in the country revenue and 3rd in the revenue ratio to the federal allocation among the 36 states of the federation.
He noted that the improvement was sequel to the blockage of loopholes in the revenue drive and fundamental process team of the Service which shored up the revenue.
On the local government’s revenue, Awodun said there is 30 per cent improvement in the revenue drive of the local governments and identified lack of substantial chairmen and other executive members as factors responsible for low revenue.
He appreciated the support of the people of the state, particularly on the payment of taxes, saying that through the infrastructure development fund, Kwara tax payers would enjoy projects that would have direct impact on them.
