NPFL: Speaker inspires Kwara Utd to slim victory

The Speaker, Kwara State House of Assembly, Honourable Ali Ahmad has inspired 10-man Kwara United to their first win of the season on Wednesday, following a 1-0 victory against Wikki Tourists in the Nigeria Professional Football League played at the Kwara State Stadium, Ilorin.
Stephen Alfred got the winning goal off a free-kick in the 14th minute to relieve the pressure from the Coach of the club, John Obuh.
The speaker, while praising the fighting spirit of the boys in the encounter reiterated his support to the team.
He admitted that they needed to make few changes in the team to make them more stronger and be able to compete well in the league.
Ahmed however urged the teeming sports lovers in the state to continuing their support on the club, adding that the state government will not relent in the promotion of sports to enhance the participation of the youths in the game.
Kwara United will travel in their week five encounter to face Akwa United.
Meanwhile, Plateau United claimed top position in the NPFL following a comfortable 3-0 home win against El-Kanemi Warriors at the New Jos Stadium.
The champions now have nine points from four games, same points as second-placed Akwa United but have a better goal than the Promise Keepers.
Jimmy Ambrose headed Plateau United in front in the second minute, while Joshua Obaje added the second six minutes later.
Rapheal Ayagwa netted his side’s third of the game, his second of the season, two minutes after the break.
Also, At the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja, Akwa United recorded the only away win of the day with a 2-1 victory against Niger Tornadoes.
Dennis Nya opened scoring for Abdu Maikaba’s men from the spot in the 23rd minute after Adeshina Gata was upended in the box by a Niger Tornadoes defender.
Nosifu Afeez equalised for the hosts two minutes before the break.
Victor Mbaoma however won the game for the visitors when he nodded the ball home 16 minutes from the end following a mix-up in the Niger Tornadoes defence.
It was the former Remo Stars striker’s second goal of the season.
