Omolewa fetes children, reiterates commitment to child devt

In clear demonstration of love, the wife of the Governor of Kwara State, Mrs. Omolewa Ahmed hosted scores of children at the weekend to a New Year party.
Mrs Ahmed in collaboration with the state Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, showered the children drawn from all parts of the state, with assorted gifts at the state Secretariat, Ilorin.
Addressing the children, Mrs Ahmed, who was represented by the Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Hajia Ayinke Saka said the administration of Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed is committed to welfare of children in the state.
She said the state government has policies and programmes aimed at child development and promulgated laws to prevent child abuse and labour.
The governor’s wife charged the children to obey their parents and elders, live by example and imbibe the virtues of hard work, urging them to take their studies serious.
In her remarks the Commissioner for Women Affairs who was represented by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Elder Ayo Samuel said the ceremony was organised to show love to the children and give them sense of belonging.
She charged the children to love others and shun behaviours that could put their families to shame, adding that the Ministry will not rest on its oars at catering for vulnerable children and orphans.
The event featured dancing competition and cutting of cake by the commissioner and the children and other fun activities. Winners of the competition were also given cash gifts.
Present at the event were the state Commissioner for Tertiary Education, Dr. Amina Ahmed, the HoS, Mrs. Susan Module Oluwole, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, Hajia Mariam Garba, among others.
