PDP, APC trade blames over poor governance in Kogi

From Bayo Oyewale, Lokoja

The Peoples Democratic Party, (PDP) and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kogi State have continued to throw tantrum at each other over poor governance in the state.

The PDP berated the activities of Governor Yahaya Bello, accusing him of feeding the public with lies with nothing on ground that points to economic growth in the state.

In a statement signed by the PDP state Publicity Secretary, Bode Ogunmola and made available to this medium on Tuesday, the party accused Governor Bello of disregarding the laid down procedures in governance.

Ogunmola said, “Our great party, the Peoples Democratic Party PDP, Kogi State chapter has watched with dismay the ongoing emasculation of the socio-economic development of the state under the Yahaya Bello-led administration.

The state main opposition party also condemned the recent political rally held in Okene where over 10,000 PDP members reportedly decamped to the ruling APC.

“Unfortunately, the recent absurdity promoted by INEC in the case of double registration involving Governor Bello has emboldened him to violate another electoral law with the recent political rally he organised in Okene purportedly to receive politicians from PDP to his party.

“Despite the huge resources the state expended on hiring the rented crowd, the programme was a total failure, reflecting the displeasure of his own people with his style of administration.

“It is certain that the people of central senatorial district are highly dissatisfied with the abysmal performance of Yahaya Bello as governor of the state,” Ogunmola added.

The PDP Publicity Secretary enjoined the INEC and other relevant agencies to call the governor and his factional APC members to order.

It warned that they should desist from flouting the law of the land and stop wasting the common patrimony of the people of the state on political jamboree at a time when the INEC had not permitted political rallies in the state.

“We call on our supporters in the state to be wary of the Greek gifts being distributed by the Governor and his cronies to deceive and manipulate some undiscerning minds to join their failed political journey, a journey that has inflicted much pain on the people in the last one and half years,”, he said.

He called on the ruling party in the state to focus on the payment of salaries of workers and the entitlement of pensioners in the state, noting that a government that failed not only to cater for the welfare of its workers but also the infrastructural and educational development of the state was certainly a failed government.

In a swift response, the Director General Media and Strategy to the Governor, Evang. Kingsely Fanwo lambasted the PDP, stressing that 12 years of its administration was a waste.

According to him, “We don’t expect the People’s Democratic Party to be comfortable with the political Tsunami that has annihilated their party in the state.

“PDP needs to ask itself why its members are defecting to the APC in the state under the leadership of Governor Yahaya Bello. We are disappointed that the PDP is not graduating from why it lost the last elections in the state.

“How much can we give 85,000 people other than good governance? Those who turned out believe in the Governor and his New Direction Agenda for the state. They have seen new roads, new hospitals, new schools and are being empowered to drive the economy. What we paid was good governance.”He added that Governor Bello is deploying the resources of the State to build roads and provide amenities to the people, noting that he is also remodeling our tertiary institutions and our people are seeing the difference we promised.

“PDP should embark on rebranding. They destroyed Nigeria and will never be trusted with power again,” he stated.
