Rage in Offa over appointment of Olofa in Ibadan

By Daniel Ayantoye

Following the recent appointment and pronouncement of one of the 21 new kings in Ibadan as the Olofa of Offa by Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, the umbrella body of all Offa sons and daughters worldwide, Offa Descendants Union (ODU) has formally submitted a letter of protest to the Governor of Kwara State, Alhaji Abdulfatah Ahmed.

The union frowned at the pronouncement adding that it has denigrated the revered position of the Olofa of Offa in Kwara State, who is the head of Ibolo Kingdom.

While recognising the fact that there are several other communities founded by Offa descendants, the union affirmed that there cannot be two Olofa of Offa anywhere else in the universe as there could not be two Olubadan, Ooni, and Alafin of Ibadan, Ile-Ife and Oyo respectively.

It however urged Governor Ahmed to prevail on his Oyo State compatriot to reverse the anomaly by changing the title of the new Oba.

In his response, the Kwara State Governor appreciated the union for bringing the issue to his attention and promised to take it up with the Governor Ajimobi.

Meanwhile, the ODU stated that it will be submitting similar letter to the Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi in the next few days.
