Senate President, Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki and Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed have been commended for promoting grassroots football and the endorsement of SP Unity Cup soccer competition.
The Chairman, Main Organising Committee of the competition, Mr. AbdulRauf Abdulsalam and the secretary Mr. Abdulrasheed Saraki gave the commendation yesterday while featuring on Sports Programme at Sobi FM, Ilorin.
Abdulsalam revealed that the maiden edition of the competition will hold between November 9th to 26th of December with the 36 teams, including the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.
Giving an account of the historical background of the competition, the chairman said the tournament started during Pius Anyim regime and this year edition will be a befitting one with the support of football governing council in Nigeria.
Also speaking, the Organising Secretary of the tournament, Mr. Abdulrasheed Saraki informed all interested teams to visit Kwara Stadium, Ilorin to pick their form to enable them partake in next week’s playoff game.
He further said that the Ilorin stadium is the venue for the competition proper, while University of Ilorin and Offa Stadium will serve as alternative venue during the competition.
