The Kwara State Police Command has arrested eleven suspects for offences bordering on kidnapping and internet fraud in Ilorin and Kwara.
Two suspects were arrested for kidnapping along Ganmo, Kwara State, while nine others were nabbed at Malete Area of Kwara state for internet fraud activity.
This was contained in the press statement issued by the state police spokesperson, SP Ajayi Okasanmi a copy of which was made available for National Pilot last Friday.
Okasanmi said that, on assumption of office barely two weeks ago, the Commissioner of Police, Kwara State, Emienbo Tuesday, assured the citizens of Kwara State of his readiness to make Kwara State uncomfortable for criminals.
“In making that assertion a reality, security strategies have been put in place, which include the sectorization of the Ilorin metropolis, with deployment of enough men for patrol/stop and search and other strategies that are put very close to our chest.
“The effort yielded some positive results with the arrest of two suspected kidnappers, Rafiu Ganiyu of Idi-Ogun Compound, Ganmo aged 45years and Mustapha Afolabi of beside Ganmo, aged 42years”
According to him” the suspects were arrested at about 5:30am of 20/08/2021 on a motor bike along Ganmo/Omu-Aran road by eagle-eyed Police Operatives on stop and search duty.
“When search was conducted on them, three locally made pistols and four locally made cut to size guns were found on them.”
He explained that, in the course of interrogation, the suspects could not give satisfactory account of themselves, fueling the suspicion that they were on a kidnapping mission.
In a similar operation, the operatives following a tip off information, arrested some fraudsters assembled in a place, at Malete area.
Okasanmi explained that, “on 8/08/2021 at about 9am, while on patrol along Malete Area, acting on an actionable intelligence that a group of suspected cultists had assembled at a location in Malete, a team of operative attached to the Command swooped on the location and nine suspects were arrested.
“In their statement, they confessed to be internet scammers. Some exotic cars, phones and laptops were recovered from them.
“Suspects in both cases will be charged to court as soon as investigation is completed.”
CP Emienbo Tuesday, while assuring the good people of Kwara State of effective policing of the state, also reiterated his total abhorrence to indiscipline, extortion and laxity among his personnel.
He also assured the citizens of his readiness to respect their fundamental human rights in the course of performing the policing duties.
