Grassroots only alternative to sport development – Olokoba
…as 32 talents discovered at Ilorin East Chairman’s Cup
The Special Adviser to the Kwara state governor on political matter Alhaji. Toyin Olokooba has said, the only way to revive the lost glory of grassroots sport developments in the state is for all and sundry inclusiveness.
Olokooba noted this yesterday while answering questions from our report in his office.
According to him, it is appalling that the present schools curriculum has deviated from what it used to be in the past.
“In those days, Schools activities wholly revolves around sports developments. But sadly today, what we have is totally nothing to write home about.
“The government should revisit the system if we are to get our sporting right,” he said.
The formal Kwara united boss said it is high time we go back to grassroots sport developments so as to tap raw talent, and also to get the youth engaged.
Olookoba who is also the FA chairman Ilorin East added that about 32 talents have been discovered at the just concluded primary school football competitions.
He assured to sponsor more football competitions in the state, says it’s the right time to go back to grassroots development and empower youths by taking them away from the street, in other to discovered their talents and create platform for their future.
He appeal to all Sports lovers and well wishers in Kwara state to join hand toward promoting grassroots sports.
However, the Primary Schools Football Competition across Ilorin East Local Government was brought to an end on Saturday as Iponrin Primary School beat Okelele Primary School 3-1 at the Kwara State Stadium Complex, Ilorin.
