Nigeria handball teams win Continental IHF Trophy in Kigali

 

Nigeria Handball U-18 and U- 20 have booked their place in the African Junior Nations Cup and World handball championship billed for Marrakech, Morocco in September and Spain in later in the year.
The U-20 booked their space in the championship after beating DR Congo 27-26 in the Continental IHF Trophy in Kigali, Rwanda on Sunday.
The U-18 sealed their place in the competitions after beating Guinea 43-31in the 2018 Continental IHF Trophy in Rwanda.
It would be recalled that the two teams won Zone 3 play-off in Niamey, Niger Republic in April while the U-18 picked bronze medal in the African Youth Games (AYG), in Algeria recently.
Speaking on the teams performances, the Secretary General of the Handball Federation of Nigeria (HFN),Alhaji Haruna Maigidasanma, said the victories are as a result of hard work and determination on the part of the players, technical crew and awesome support of the board.
He said at the inception of the board, we promised Nigerians not to judge us on short run results but long run.
Maigidasanma described results on the short run as shocking and has encouraged the board to work harder.
“We must remember that government alone cannot do it hence the reason individuals and corporate organisations must support government’s effort” Maigidasanma said.
The Secretary General thanked the ministry for its support to the board, the players and the technical crew while also appreciating the unrelenting effort of the his board members.
The African Junior Nations cup will hold in Marrakech, Morocco from Sept.6 to Sept. 15.
