Disaster: Ilorin airport to construct hydrates on runway

The Management of Ilorin International Airport has concluded plans for the construction of hydrate system on the runway and other sections of the airport to avert disaster.
The hydrate is expected to be used by the Fire Service during plane crash and fire disasters at the airport.
Speaking on the development to Pilot Aviation on Friday, the Airport Manager, Alhaji Ibrahim Abdulazeez, said the contractor is expected to start on work on the project soon.
“We are expecting the contractor to start work any moment from now. The hydrate system is mainly for the Fire Service to work with. They will connect it water in case of emergency.
” It will not be limited to the airside alone as other sensitive landside will have the hydrate constructed there too,” he explained.
The manager further explained that more overhead water tanks would be constructed to maximise water supply at the airport.
He, however, stated that the Managing Director/Chief Executive Officer of Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN), Engr. Saleh Dunoma would commission some of the just completed renovation projects at the airport soon.
These include Airlines checking counter and conveying belt at the terminal building, street lights, Hajj processing centres, fire service station and bay among others.
He further stated that the image making team, a voluntary group initiated by the Corporate Affairs Department would hold its inaugural presentation of gifts (branded souvenirs) to students on excursion to the airport for this academic session.
