The National Association of Nigerian Nurses and Midwives (NANNMS) has lauded the spirited effort of Mrs Toyin Saraki on her advocacy to improve reproductive health in the country.
Mrs Saraki who is the inaugural Global Goodwill Ambassador for the International Confederation of Midwives representing over one million midwives and 550 midwifery associations in 134 countries has been a strong advocate of family and maternal health with far reaching impact across the world for her good work and contributions to women’s reproductive health.
In a goodwill message to commemorate the International Day of the Midwife and International Day of the Nurse held on 5th and 12th May, respectively, the group identified Mrs Saraki’s good work on reproductive health which has positively impacted women and children in Nigeria and the global community.
”We Appreciate World Midwives Global Ambassador, Her Excellency, Mrs Toyin Saraki for always advocating for midwives and women’s reproductive health. Thank you for the good work you do”, the group noted in a statement.
In her global goodwill message to mark the occasion, Mrs Saraki’s had advocated for governments and policy makers to support the caring medical professions of nursing and midwifery.
According to her, ‘Because midwives have supported women for centuries by delivering routine maternity care and counsel on a daily basis, we must use the opportunity today to advocate louder and stronger together to support nurses and midwives”.
It will be recalled that from her global advocacy leadership position, Mrs Saraki, recently launched a global applaud with WASH Campaign, calling for policy makers to ensure that water, sanitation and hygiene resources are accelerated and activated in healthcare facilities to improve Covid-19 resilience and responsiveness for infection prevention and control.
Through her Wellbeing Foundation Africa programmes, Mrs Saraki has also been a source of consistent support to NANNMS annually, sponsoring their outreach programs to Internally Displaced Persons camps and hosting Nigeria’s First Global Midwifery Conference.
She has also provided certificated training modules to members of NANNMS drawn from the 36 States of the federation in 2016 including other ranges of continued support she has extended to Midwifery and Nursing professionals in Nigeria and globally.
